Frequently Asked Questions

Anyone can engineer at TRC! We are an all freelance, bring-your-own engineer facility. Artists have the opportunity to choose their own engineer - someone who they believe best fits their budget and creative style.

Engineers at TRC are responsible for all management, use, and care of the studio equipment, as well as successfully loading in and out of the studio on time. The engineer is required to be physically present for the entirety of the recording session.

We strongly suggest you have a working knowledge of how to run a session. While we welcome learners, attempting to run a paid session without knowing how to work in a studio can lead to a very poor experience for you and the artist.

We encourage newer engineers to book a session in one of the smaller studios (Studios C+D) alone or with a friend to "test" the workflow before taking on clients. The primary recommended prerequisite for engineering at TRC is experience working in a DAW (Pro Tools, Logic, or Ableton).

Orientations are brief (10-20min each), and focused on familiarizing the engineer with the equipment/workflow of the studios, as well as helping plan for a successful first session!

If you’re a new engineer, this is a great opportunity to gain some insight into the differences between home recording and working in a facility like ours.

Nope! TRC is proud to be an all freelance, bring-your-own engineer facility. We do provide onsite tech support to help troubleshoot issues during your session, but we do not provide staff to run your session.

Coming Soon: We are launching our Preferred Engineers Program soon, in which you can book an engineer or assistant engineer directly for our studios and production suites.

Join the TRC Network group on Facebook and our Discord! This is where people post with open gigs and collaboration opportunities.

The engineer is responsible for the equipment.

As the engineer on the session, you are the captain of the ship! You are fully responsible for the proper care and use of the equipment and the space during your booking.

If gear is damaged due to misuse, negligence, or accidents caused by the engineer or their clients, the engineer will be held liable for the repair or replacement costs. We recommend doing a quick walkthrough before you start to ensure everything is in working order.
